I’m 61 and did my first solo winter camping trip (with my dog 😊) two years ago in the middle of February in to the interior of BC, Canada. I snowshoed with a ski pulk, bring ing all my gear into the woods in 4 trips, most of it in the night because it took a lot longer than I anticipated, having to keep a fire going to keep my dog warm while I set up. Set up my Luxe tipi with a Winnerwell stove, and finally got to sleep at 1:30am, completely exhausted. Got down to -18C at night but I have a really warm sleep system so I was fine. Stayed 3 days and had an incredible experience. Very hard work, mostly keeping up with firewood. I had my 12 gauge with me just in case. Now I usually do some kind of winter camping each year, sometimes with my 11 year old son. Very good for the soul!
